Awkwafina
Awkwafina started out as a American performer and rapper, performing sly tunes that dealt with issues such as racial and sexual identity with a comedic twist. In the years before she stepped into Hollywood, she had the opportunity to make a few songs. Nora Lum, born in Forest Hills Queens to Chinese and Korean immigrants was her very first music experience. She played the trumpet. Alongside classical music and jazz, she started studying hip-hop when she was in her teens. When she was in college, she focused on her studies, and then took up a degree in women's studies and journalism. While she was for a brief amount of time, in Beijing, Mandarin language classes were also offered. It wasn't until after graduating when she decided to turn her attention to music. In 2012, My Vag (as a retort to Mickey Avalon's My Dick) became an internet hit and was included on her debut album Yellow Ranger. The album also contained was other hits that went viral, including Queef (body-positive) as well as NYC Bitchethe cost of $. The latter song was linked directly with another Awkwafina project NYC Travel Guide, which was published in 2015. Her resume included both the musician and author. She was now looking for a new career path in acting. Alongside early TV shows like Girl Code and Tawk she was also in films such as Neighbors 2. Storks and Bad Rap. In 2018, she landed a series of notable parts, including Dude Ocean 8 and Crazy Rich Asians. The EP came out in June.
